I have a 11 year old almost 12 (In early July) and we just move to this area three weeks ago. I was told by a family of this web site. Our son is use to having tons of friends and tons of things to do (example: Sports - Baseball, Football, Basketball) and other forms of activities such as camps. We believe in keeping a track of what he does instead of allowing him to just roam everywhere and we like to keep him busy. My question to everyone is "What is there to do for a 12 year old in this area"? He is doing the 2008 Kids Triathlon. We moved here right after school so the closing dates to sign up for the sports was already done.

Thank you

stuff to do

Welcome to the area!

A few thoughts: Going to games at our local Minor League Baseball stadium, downtown South Bend to watch the Silverhawks is always fun!

Activities through the South Bend Parks and Recreation: http://www.sbpark.org/info/errata.html including The East Race downtown South Bend (it's on this website, too-- there's kayaking, etc).

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the help! I

Thank you for the help! I greatly appreciate it. I haven't lived in this area for over 12 years and just feel lost although this is where I was born and grew up. I want to make sure the kids stay active throughout the summer.

Suggestions for a tween to do

Hello, welcome to the area! I have an 11 year old boy too. There are many places to go such as: Mega Play(indoor min. golf/arcade), Strikes and Spares(bowling), ICE Athletic Center(basketball & rock climbing), SoccerZone,USA skating rank, Hackers(min. golf, batting cages, & go-karts), and Healthworks Musuem. Which area are you in? In the PHM area, there is a football camp July 7-11 that you could still sign up for. Coming for the fall, Michiana Soccer Association has soccer, Upward basketball has sign ups for January, and some ballfields offer Fall ball. The Musuem of Art has an animation camp in July, if he likes drawing. Oh, St. Patrick Park has a summer camp that may still have openings for a week in July. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thank you for the suggestions! We coach Upward Basketball in our old town and would love for the kids to be part of that once again. We are in the PHM School district. I greatly appreciate this help!

More Inormation for tween

The Penn football camp sign up form is at this link:
http://www.phm.k12.in.us/news-items/Football%202008.pdf
Usually you can bring it and sign up the first day of camp, but you have plenty of time to send it. All the Penn camps are great. We have done many for years.
Upward basketball for fifth-seventh is through Clay United Church on Cleveland Rd., in South Bend. Registration is usually in November for January start of the season. ICE Atheltics has Michiana Basketball Association(MBA) which offers team play and instruction. It is more competitive, but also more instructional. Their website is http://www.ice-gym.com/basketball.htm.
If he is interested in learning to golf, Juday Creek has a July camp that is really good. http://www.judaycreek.com/index.php?option=com_attend_events&task=view&i...
Also, there is the O'brien State Park. Check it out here: http://www.sbpark.org/skate/skatepark.htm
Feel free to send me a message if you need any other ideas. Which school will he be going to in the Fall? Mine will be at Discovery.

THANK YOU SO MUCH`

Sgigi,
Thank you for the information. My son will be going to Grissom Middle School. He is not too happy about it due to its way out in the no man's land. He wanted to go to Schumker which is right down the street from us. But we are about one block away from the cut off line. We moved here quickly so I didn't want to take the chance of not having a place to live. He loves to skateboard and we order a new one for his birthday of course it's back order. So it hasn't been his month. Leaving his friends, he was on student council, sports. Now he comes to another state, just the wrong age I think. I hope things get better for him when he starts school. We found out there are not too many kids his age where we live. Sorry going on here. I am going to ask about the football thing. He was on a football team back in Ohio. We are hoping that doing things like that will get him to know kids his own age and make friends. He is also doing the Kids Triathlon plus a 4-day camp through St. Patrick's park.
