I have this cookbook by a great author. It's called Not Just Beans. In addition to recipes she includes bits of wisdom here and there. She doesn't say who these bits of wisdom come from, but here are just a few:

Things Only Women Understand

1. The need for the same style of shoes in different colors.
2. Why bean sprouts aren't just weeds.
3. Fat Clothes
4. The difference between beige, ecru, cream, off-white, and eggshell.
5. Cutting your bangs to make them grow.
6. Eyelash curlers
7. The inaccuracy of every bathroom scale ever made.
8. Other women.

An antique store sign:

"Come in and buy what your grandmother threw away."

When your house looks like a bomb hit it, and company calls from a block away, set your vacuum by the front door and say, "Come in! I was just cleaning."

Preserve choice children

1 large grassy field
2 or 3 small dogs
Pinch of brooks and some pebbles
1-2 dozen children
Mix children and dogs together well and put them in the field, stirring constantly. Pour the brook over the pebbles, sprinkle the field with flowers; spreadover all a deep blue sky and bake in the hot sun. When thoroughly brown remove and set away to cool in a bathtub.

Substitutions

I didn't have potatoes... so I substituted rice
I didn't have paprika.....so I used another spice,
I didn't have tomato sauce...I used tomato paste,
A whole can..not half a can..I don't believe in waste!
A friend gave me the recipe. She said you couldn't beat it! But there must be something wrong as I couldn't eat it!!!!

Enjoy!
