I've been in Aldi's probably twice in my life.. I just don't think about going there to shop. Anyone who does go there: are the prices better than Walmart or Meijer brand items? Is the produce fresh? Been happy with the meat? We shop generally at Walmart but Aldi's is basically across the street. Just wondered what you all think, that shop there?

Thanks!

Walmart VS Aldi

In the past I have shoped at Aldi's, but then I compared prices. I was only saving $4-$5 by shopping there, and some things I still had to go to Walmart for. So for me, I just save gas and go to one stop. Also, Walmart's off brands are really good. The only item I did not like at Aldi's was the bottle water. Tasted gross.

I do!

Their prices are really good, I can't get everything I want there but I save a lot of money buying my bread, milk, eggs, cheeses, canning tomatoes, fruits and vegetables etc. Every week I look at the budget101 website and specials and Aldi have better prices. I do not buy my meat there do but Aldi is right next to Walmart or Kroger so not much to cross the stress. Aldi is getting much better with good providers and it's fresh; they will give you back your money if you are not happy.

I do!!!

I try to go to Aldis every week or every other.. it really just depends on what is on sale at the other stores... when i do go i try to stock up on certain items...they also have an aldi brand guarantee so if you dont like it return it for more that you paid. Alot of their items are just as good as name brand. Their canned goods are alot cheaper than name brands . There fruit is alot cheaper also.

Groceries

I have never shopped Aldi's. I think you get what you pay for. Their stuff is cheap for a reason. I prefer to shop at Kroger's, the Farmer's Market and I also go to a butcher shop for my meat.

HMMMM

We are fortunate enough to not have to shop for meat. we live on a farm and raise our own. However as far as getting what you pay for, i would rather pay $3 for a pineapple than $4 and would rather pay $1 for salad mix than $3. I consider myself a very frugal person, however i am a foodie type as well. I don't feel i am compromising by shopping at aldis and it fits my budget as well.

some things

Some things I agree, you get what you pay for.  I haven't shopped at Aldi yet, but I will go this week to try their produce first.  I figure bananas are bananas, and apples are apples.  Canned goods and meat, I'm sure I'll eventually try, but those things we are picky about.  I also wanted to try their olive oil and a couple other things to check out the quality of their items.

I do too!!!!!

momols actually re-introduced me to Aldi. I used to take my grandma there many years ago. It has certainly changed from strictly dry goods! I chatted with the cashier one day. Many of their products are name brands with their private labels: canned fruit and veggies are DelMonte, canned pasta is Franco American, Frozen Chicken is Tyson, milk is Schenkels. I purchased juice bottles and when the outer wrapping was removed the bottles were Mondo. I save about $40 to $50 a week by shopping at Aldi. We prefer a couple of the store brand breakfast cereals over name brands, at about two bucks less a box. There are a few items that I still prefer, such as Dawn dish soap, and a few other products that I have to occasionally get at another store. My husband has almost made it a game to see how much we can save by shopping at Aldi; he will make statements that we saved $.50 a gallon on milk or that item was $.xx more at Martin's/Meijer. I think many of you would be surprised to see the number of luxury vehicles that are parked at Aldi!

Stoplight Peppers

Sometimes their produce is OK, I bought their "Stoplight peppers" (prepackaged in red, yellow and green) on sale for $1.99. Red and yellow peppers were priced at about $1.99 lb at Meijer the same week. The peppers were all of good quality w/no marks or anything and they weren't soft. One thing that does bother me though is that none of their produce is chilled and when I go in there especially close to the produce section it just has that odor of old produce. So I wouldn't necessarily buy just anything, but I have tried a few things there.

carrots

I noticed they had baby carrots and bag lettuce for 99 cents!  We go through a TON of carrots, it's about the only vegetable I can get Luke to eat right now.  I did notice nothing was cold though.

All the time!!!

I shop at Aldi once a week for two-three weeks in a row and then I'll go one week to Walmart/Meijer to stock up on things we can't get at Aldi (brand name cereals, certain cuts of meat, etc.) My husband has commented on a few of the produce selections he is not as crazy about (their pears never seems to ripen right) but for the most part we get everything else there! Once in a while you will get some produce that is not as good, but they do have a great return policy and have always let me exchange things when I return them. I don't compare individual prices of things, but I know my reciept is always $15-$20 less when I shop at Aldi. It's also very quick for me because I know exactly what I want and there aren't as many options. It just works well for us.
