Thyroid?

My niece was born 4 weeks premature and was check right away for her thyroid because my sister has a thyroid disorder. It turns out that Abby does not have a thyroid. It made her appetite almost non-existent. Now that they have her on medication and her levels are where they should be she's doing better, but still doesn't have a huge appetite. That's the only thing that comes to mind for me.

Oh yeah!

Ok brief history: Bekka was born at 24 wks, 4 1/2 month NICU stay, Cerebral palsy, deaf (cochlear Implant)

She will be 5 in Feb and we have a very hard time getting her to eat. She's growing taller but not putting on any weight. Riley's told me to fatten her up with butter and sugar but she won't eat much... It's a continuing battle with her. She eats a decent meal about once a day if I'm lucky. If it wasn't for pediasure she'd be very underweight. She's abour 38" and 30lbs now. She drinks on average 5 cans a day. Today all I got her to eat was 1/2 yogurt and a piece of garlic bread, one bite of ravioli. School sd she had some pancakes but I don't know how much. I took her to the dr yesterday and we discussed this and she sd to keep trying different things throughout the day. Sorry I don't have any magical words for ya but if ya find any let me know!

Born Early

My oldest was born early. Just two weeks but I had toximonia my last 4 months and he weigh just 5 lbs. He is now 12 years old and has had several different issues come about from being born early. One he use to not be able to hold anything down as a baby. NOTHING! He actually drop weight for the first month. That problem became acid reflux time he hit 9 years old. Time he hit 11 years old he was having a scope and other test done at the Dayton Childrens medical center. He also gets upper respt. infections about 6 times in the winter. He has asthma but that problem he might have had no matter what. Parts of my family have that and also thyroid issues. Which I got both! BUT! Even with all the trips to the E.R. and the specialist we are the lucky ones. He is active and healthy on other terms. When I was given birth to him the doctors informed me I had a mini stroke, so I am lucky and happy that God gave us both the strength to fight!

Pediasure

WE live in MI and if you qualify for WIC and have a script for it from your dr they will cover it.
MI Children's Special Health Care will also cover it with a script if you qualify. Otherwise it gets exensive!! Bekka goes through a six pack in a day. You can also bulk order through the manufacturer.

5 weeks early

Jackson was born 5 weeks early and he didn't eat much for about the first 6 weeks. Since that point he has been an eating machine. He is now 6 and I can't feed him enough. His being a preemie didn't seem to affect his appetite, but I am sure each little one is different.

Hi, I'm new to this site.

Hi, I'm new to this site. My daughter was born at 24 weeks and is now fairly healthy. She doesn't seem to eat well for me at all but her babysitter says she eats just fine. Because we qualified for First Steps help because of her birthweight, I've gotten lots of information about the development of preemies. Many times their muscles don't develop as quickly as regular newborns and there are things you can do to stimulate that. Also, often they have sensory issues that aren't real obvious if you don't know what to look for. A good book for the sensory issues is "out of sync child". Also, if you want more info about the muscle development I can try to let you know as much as I remember. (def not a professional here.) Just want to help if I can. Write back if you're interested.
