Penn Schools
I was wondering if any mom's on here send their children to the Penn school district. I recently moved to the area and we are house hunting. Ive heard so many good things about Penn but was totally blown away by the size of the high school. My son will start JR high next yr so elementary is not a concern now. I have heard the class choices are amazing and then I have heard in the high school, each class has about 50 students. My son tends to be a daydreamer and I would think he might get lost in the crowd. He goes to Mishawaka now and he seems to like it. I did notice on schoolmatters.com the scores for Mishawaka did not compare to Penn. However, we once lived in a city that had great schools on paper but our experience with that school was not so great. So I do take the scores with a grain of salt. Every public school has its pros and cons. But I would like feed back from Mom's that might send their kids to Penn.
Thanks!!!

Penn
My son has been in Penn disctrict all but 1-1/2 years. I moved back to the area just for that school.
He went to Schmucker and I loved it. Yes they are big classes but they all get the attention they need. My son is now at Penn as a freshman and the classes they offer are great.

My daughter and son both go to Schmucker. It has programs like five star which are not even offered in other school districts. Five star is a great after school program that is only offered to a few schools. Schmucker, Grissom, and a school in Elkhart have five star. Go to the five star website.
My daughter's 8th grade class trip is oing to Wash. DC in the spring. All the 8th graders go. My on is in 6th grade and at Schmucker all the 6th graders have their own hallway so they don't mingle with the 7th and 8th graders.
We love the Penn school district and built a house near Penn High School in 1993 just because of the school distict.
Moved back here
I moved away about 12 years ago. I went to Penn High and graduated from there. When we moved back here 3 months ago from Ohio, I wanted to be in Penn district. One it was a good school when I went there and two because I was use to it and thought I could help my children attending a larger school. Although the school district is large they offer so much for the children as long as they use what is available to them. My children were use to living in an area that had just 10,000 people. And like the others before me, all schools no matter if they are private or public have pros and cons. I can say one thing the teachers at Grissom are great. Having a difficult time with the teachers at Moran with our youngest son. They appear to wish to "baby" him still. And that is the last thing he needs. The school in Ohio worked so hard to try to teach responsibility and now it just appears to be going out the window. But, that too I am working on. I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks!
Thank you taking time out to let me know about your experiences. I welcome more comments. My insurance agent raved about Penn as well. I guess the size of the school kind of spooked me. We looked at a new sub in Penn district but even though it was only down the road from Schumucker (??? forgive me I cant for the life me remember how to spell these school names) my son would go to Grimsom which was really far from the new sub.
Im going to post another thread for Mishawaka schools. I love hearing feedback on everyone's experiences with the schools. I like the school websites but nothing compares to real experiences from Mom's.
