I have been all over online looking at reception halls in our area but either they are really high and strict by not allowing outside catering, or heck I havent found anything else yet. I am getting married in summer of next year I havent set the date because Im depending on an opening at a reception hall. Right now its either in May or July Im cutting June out. Im having basically a DIY wedding and Im cutting cost anywhere I can. I will be having my family and my fiances family cook special dishes for a buffet. Well the places I have looked at do not allow outside food :( Any other places?

reception

We had our reception at Michiana Party Hall and I was really happy with it.  I believe the owner's name is Glenda, and she was awesome to work with.  I don't know about outside food being allowed, but she allows outside alcohol because she doesn't supply her own bartenders.  She gave us a list of recommended bartenders to contact, we supplied the alcohol and they served it.  Again, no idea on outside food, but she is an awesome caterer...the food was excellent!  One huge money saver is that her hall is already decorated, so just a touch of something on the table and that's all we had to do.  She has lattice with ivy on the walls, and just tons of decorative touches around the hall.  Even if it doesn't go with your "theme", it's so nicely/nuetrally done, I don't think you would even notice.  Check out the place before you dismiss it if she doesn't allow outside food, because you may be able to save on decorations instead!  She also has a smaller banquet room where we had our rehearsal dinner.  And the hall is large, roomy, well laid out....overall, we loved it!

St. Hedwig Memorial Center...

My husband and I hd our reception at St. Hedwig's Memorial Center over on Western Ave. I know that sounds like a bad part of ton, but it's actually a very nice facility and just west of downtown where Gates used to be. I can't remember how much the rent was. We also used them for our food and it was under $10 a person if I remember correctly. I was able to go the day before to decorate, which was also nice. One thing we did to save money was not have a bar (open bar or cash bar). It also saved us money bc St. Hedwig's requires you to have security if there is going to be alcohol, which was $150 for the night. I don't know if you are planning to have alcohol or not. But overall I really liked it and we all had a really good time!

St. Hedwig is nice!

We are getting married 11/14/09 and I booked St. Hedwig for our reception. The hall is very nice and clean. They have a Polish Style dinner- chicken, sausage, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, kraut and rolls. Dinner also includes coffee, milk or water. Its $9.75 per person for dinner and the bar is $6.75 per person. The larger hall is $500 for the deposit and seats 200-400 people and the smaller hall seats up to 200 and is $350. That deposit is then applied to your food and alcohol bill. The area that it is located is in a so-so neighborhood, but to my knowledge there has never been any problems due to that for a wedding. Good Luck!

halls

The FOP in Mishawaka rents out their hall. They do allow outside catering and it's a nice location. Also, I think it's called the Lion's Club, located behind Liberty Mutual in Mishawaka. They rent it out to non-members, and have a really nice hall. I have been to both places for weddings and they are both really nice. Hope that helps.

K of C

The place behind Liberty Mutual is the Knights of Columbus, we've been to multiple receptions there and had great times.
