Multisensory Reading Strategies

Multisensory Reading Strategies, Inc. and Psi Iota Xi, both nonprofit organizations, are offering a reading clinic for school-age children this summer at:
St. Anthony de Padua School
2310 E. Jefferson Blvd.
South Bend, IN
Monday - Friday, 7:50 am - 1:20 pm, for 3 weeks in June
The five components identified by the National Reading Panel as being necessary to effectively teach a child to read are phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. The full report can be obtained from www.nifl.gov.
These components will be addressed through:
• Intensive Reading Instruction
• Speech/Language Therapy
• Fine Motor Skills/Art
• Gross Motor Skills/Physical Education
• Music/Rhythm
• Computer Assisted Learning
Evidence-based multisensory instruction programs include:
• Orton-Gillingham, Wilson
• Lindamood-Bell (LiPS, Seeing Stars, Visualizing & Verbalizing)
• Computer-Based Programs (Earobics, Lexia)
The schedule is as follows:
June 9 - 13, June 16 - 20, and June 23 - 27, 2008
7:50 - Students arrive
8:00-11:45 - Instruction
11:45-12:15 - Lunch & Recess (Students bring their own lunch)
12:15-1:15 - Physical Education (week 1), Music (week 2), or Art (week 3)
1:20 - Student Dismissal
Instructors include licensed Indiana teachers with multisensory training and/or certification along with two Indiana licensed speech language pathologists. Resumes available upon request.
Tuition is $2,250 per student for the entire program. This includes all assessments and materials. A minimum down payment of $1,125 must be received no later than May 1, 2008 with the final payment of $1,125 received no later than June 1, 2008. Enrollment is limited.
