Moms in College
I went back to school this semester to finish my associates degree and plan to start my Bachelors in January. With 2 kids and a job, I find it really hard to stay focused and study. So for you moms that are in college now too, what do you do to find time to study? How do you stay motivated with it? My motivation of course is to finish college to start a teaching career when my 2nd child is in kdg. in a couple years. I want to set a good example for them, as far as going to college and studying, etc. There are days I just don't want to sit and read for hours!!! Help!

not school
I'm not in school, but I do work from home with 2 small kids. I do understand how hard it can be to manage your time well and focus when you need to. Something that has helped me is to leave the house! If I know ahead of time that I get 3 hours to leave the house to work, I can plan ahead, get into focus and know what I need to get done! Get out of the house, get a latte and sit somewhere quiet. Make it fun for yourself, make it like "you" time, only you also get to be productive at the same time! I find that when I am home, I get distracted with kids, laundry, dishes and everything else that I know needs attention.
I give all of you moms who go to school alot of credit. I can't imagine trying to juggle kids, jobs and school work. I think that by setting aside specific "study time" would set a good example for your kids teaching them to avoid distractions and focus on and complete one goal at a time.

Oh I feel your pain! I am still working my associates degree. I hope to have it done in a year. I took some time off due to $$$$ issues. But this spring I am returning. I am waiting for information to come back on some colleges around here. But, when I was in college I went full time, work full time, and had two children under the age of 5 years old! You talk about a busy schedule. I tried to stay organize the best as I could. This way I was making sure I made time for everything. But sleep was very limited I can say! I always felt bad when I went to college due to the kids being at home. I felt torn most of the time. Now they are older and asked me why I haven't finished yet I explain my reasons and now they are telling me to go back.
I proud that you are in college with kids plus a job. It's hard work! But keep it up and pray a lot!

Kudos to you!
All I can say is that I have the upmost respect for mothers that can go back and finish their educations. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be. Good Luck!!
college
I have been looking into going back to college lately but I keep putting it off. I dont want to take time away from my kids. My husband and I talked about me going part time at work so I can get school work done without taking time away from the kids in the evenings but with hte economy the way it is right I am kinda nervous to cut my hours....my husband is in sales and they havent been doing so good lately. Has anyone done any at home or online classes? I was looking into that so I could do some work in the evening when the kids went to bed or during my lunch at work. I looked into IUSB but they dont offer 100% online classes. I have also looking into University of Phoenix but they are really expensive and my work will only pay $2000 a year towards college. Has anyone ever looked into like ashworth college? I see their commercials on tv all the time and went on there website and they say they are national accredited but I dont know it seems too good to be true. I look up to all you moms that are going to school with a family at home whether you are a SAHM or work, either way it takes alot and is hard work.
I feel for you!
I am working full time and am currently in school for my masters in nursing. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. I still have not figured out how to find time to study and write papers! My husband works part time and is in school full time, so we are really having a hard time making our schedules fit. I don't really have a lot of time to leave the house to study, so I usually get up early in the mornings or stay up late at night while the kids are sleeping. I know how stressful it is right now, but in the end it will be way worth it. I hope!
Hybrid courses at Southwestern Michigan College
I feel ya!! I've been chugging away towards my nursing degree forever! I took a long break when Bekka came along. This is my second semster back. I'm going 3/4 time. I have one class on M&W and I'm also taking a hybrid course. This is my second time taking a hybrid and I love them! It's an online course but you meet in class "x" amount of time during the semester. My english class we met four times and for my medical terminiolgy class we are only meeting three times. Everything else is submitted online. I love it because I can lay in bed with my laptop and do homework if I want too.
It's hard to find time to study. Bekka is my full time job(she has cerebral palsy) and I was babysitting for a 8 mo old but it's getting to be too much for me. Bekka has alot of appts every week and I was just diagnosed with Lupus. The only time I have to study is when she's in preschool in the morning and late at night. It sucks but I just remember how much $$ and how stable our lives will be after I get my degree.

thanks!
Thanks to all moms who replied to my post. Its nice to hear other moms stories of "survival" on this topic. I am about to turn 30 and now am looking back to when I first started college at 18. I wish I would have know then what I know now, because I'd already have my degree! But we learn from mistakes and better ourselves from them too. The only time of day I find to study is when the boys are in bed- so typically after 9 pm at night, at that point I am soooo tired and would rather go to bed!
Good luck to you all!
In school
As a mother and a student, it is difficult. Having support at home is the only way it works. My son is 11 so he understands when mom needs time to study and husband helps me with my math but its hard juggling everything. I love Panera bread cuss of the free wi-fi. I go there, get a coke or whatever and find a booth in the corner. Utilize the library cuss they usually have private study rooms. I started my degree when I lived in Detroit. My husband got a job in South Bend and we moved here during the summer. Thankfully my college is letting me finish on line. I am disappointed though because I am finishing my degree in Graphic Design and there are not many jobs here for that. Im still working on my associates and its seems when I do see a job in the paper, the company wants a bachelors with several yrs experience. Im thinking I might have to change my major when I go for my bachelors. Baker college offers several degrees all on line. I didnt think anyone outside of Michigan was enrolled but in my on line classes there are people from California, Ohio and Nevada. I like the school. It is a little expensive but it works for me. www.baker.edu
