Dishwasher Help Needed Quick!
I opened up our dishwasher last night and I was almost blown away by how bad it stunk. It was like something was rotten in there. Since we have lived in our new apt (for a little over a month) our dishes always come out with spots on them. I even bought the most expensive jet turbo dry and it didnt help. Well last night we pulled open the drain in the back of the dishwasher and noticed there was a ton of water that was plugged up. My boyfriend put a knife in there and pulled out some goonk that made me want to throw up....ew ew eww!! anyways, we live in an apt and i know we could call the maintence people but the thing is we are sneaking in a cat so i hate to call if i dont have to...i wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem or if they knew if draino or something would work if we pour it down the drain...i mean if we have to i'll end up just calling maintence but wanted to see other alternatives for right now :)
Cleaning first
Cleaning the drain was the best choice at the time. Run it several times with vinegar or ammonia only. We run our appliances that way sometimes for preventative maintenance. It could any number of awful things, let's pray it is only rotten food. Lynn

This happened to us a few months back and this is what worked for us. Assuming you also have a garbage disposal, run it with hot water for a minute or so while adding pieces of lemon a few at a time. Presto, it worked fine and the yucky smell was gone.
dishwasher woes
We have had lots of build up in our dishwasher since we moved in. Last month I found some cleaner at walmart next to the dishwasher detergent. You run it thru the empty dishwasher. We ran two of them thru. They cost $3.50 each. It worked wonderfully for us!
Tang
My mom works for a cleaning company and they use Tang - the orange drink mix in the detergent holder and run it empty. She said it works great. The acid breaks down the gunk etc.... hey if doesn't work you can drink some tang! lol And it smells nice and orangy!

Thanks for that idea! I did get the dishwasher to work and it doesnt smell anymore and there are no clogs but its still showing a lot of spots on the dishes. But I'm def gonna try that tang idea :)
