Diaper rash and preschool suggestions
I have two concerns;
#1 My son is teething and has severe diarrhea and therefore has a bad diaper rash. I am using desitin which is working a little but does anyone have any other suggestions that you all use on your kids that works better?
#2 My daughter will be three in September and I am looking into preschools for her. Right now I am thinking about the Montessori school by downtown Elkhart, has anyone heard of this school and what do you think about it? Does anyone else have any suggestions of preschools in Elkhart, Granger/Mishawaka, or Southern Michigan? I live in the Simonton lake area in Elkhart so anywhere somewhat close to here would be nice to look into.
Thanks

cornstarch
When my kids have had bad diaper rashes, I've found nothing works better then cleaning with soap and water only, and pure cornstarch. It's the purest thing, with no additives or anything to further irritate the skin!

suggestions
First, we have been using A&D Ointment for my son and it works great! Put a layer of Desitin over it to make it last all night if your son sleeps through the night without a diaper change. My first son actually had diaper rash so bad it turned into yeast infection, and he got it often. For that we used prescription Nystatin, nothing else worked.
Preschool - my son goes to First United Methodist in Downtown Mishawaka. The school is great and the teachers are fabulous! My son never has a complaint about going to school, so I know he enjoys it too! They do lots of crafts, learn phone number and addresses, show and tell, field trips, snack time....lots of activities to keep them busy. The 3 year old class is Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 am - 11:30 am. Let me know if you have other questions or want contact info :) Good luck in your search!

zinc oxcide
a layer of zinc oxcide works well and its cheep too---it is in many of your name brand diaper creams. It is a skin protectant. You can also use this for sun protection on the nose or shoulders. This is the white cream that you may remember the life guards using at the beach on their noses. Good for poision rashes too it dryes out the rash. (recommended by the doctor)
Lotermen (antifungal cream for athletes foot) works well too before having to use nystatin cream. I kept a couple of tubes on hand and used the off name brand. Athletes foot is the same type of fungus as diaper rash. Once you get a double infection then you will have to resort to the nystatin from the doctor. (the otc was recommended by the doctor too)
Calesense powder is good as well. I beleive it contains a powder form of zinc oxcide. It keeps the moisture away from the skin--does not act like normal baby powder. I used this faithfully with my babies.
Yogurt
Plain old yogurt works wonders on diaper rashes and yeast infections. It has natural antibodies in it that help to heal. I was a little afraid to use it the first time, but really it was the least expensive way to take care of the rash. You get just plain yogurt, you can nuke it for a little to warm it, but it really works.

Winding Waters
My sister lives in you area and she sent her son to Winding Waters. He loved going there and she really liked the staff and environment. They also have daycare and a great summer program for school aged kids that need child care. I thought the prices were fair too. Good luck!

It has been a while for
It has been a while for diaper rashes, but we used Dr. Sirlins ointment and it works great. I found it near the pharmacy area at Osco and also Merrill pharmacy.
Hillcrest in Elkhart, on Bristol street near Cobblestone, is wonderful. Our son went there for 2 years and our daughter is going this coming fall. We love it there and I recommened it to everyone!

diaper rash
My daughter had really bad diaper rash almost a month ago and nothing was working. We used Balmex, Desatin, and A&D Ointment. Finally my neighbor suggested using Boudreaux(sp?)Butt Paste. It's a funny name and it is a little more expensive than others, but it worked in about a day. It also doesn't have that medicinal smell to it. We also switch back to sensitive wipes when she has diaper rash. That seems to help too.
suggestions
For the diaper rash, I have had the best luck with the A&D ointment. For awhile we used a prescription creme from our dr., but I can't remember the name.
For preschool, our oldest went to Bridges in Granger (on Gumwood, close to the mall) for 3 years and it was WONDERFUL!! They are accredited and have staff that has been there for a long time. Very child-friendly, hands-on warm and loving environment. Here is their website: www.bridges-school.com. You should call for a tour- I guarantee you will be impressed!
Good Luck!

I have always used a product called Butt Paste. It works wonders in only one application! You can buy this at Wal-Mart, Target... pretty much anywhere.
