Does anyone know anything about computers? I have a HP laptop. I bought it just about a year ago. The past few months it has been giving me trouble where I just have a black screen but all my lights are on. I can usually mess around with it and it comes back up and works fine. Yesterday was a whole different story, I messed with it for hours and nothing! My lights all come on and the moniter stays black. I can hear it starting up but nothing happens with the moniter. I've tried taking out the battery, taking it off the a/c adapter and letting it sit but still nothing. I called HP and I have 10 days left on my warranty and they told me I can send it in to them for them to check but that all my information stored on it will be lost. I have all my pictures on there and I started crying when I found out they would all be lost. The sad coincidence was that just Saturday I was at lunch with a friend and we were talking how we need to put all of our pictures on a CD to save them in case soemthing did happen to the computer. But heck its only a year old, I never would have expected it to crash on me already.

I feel your pain. We save

I feel your pain. We save everything now on backup. We take all of our equipment to C&P Distributing 256-1138 in Mishawaka, town & country. I ask for Joseph Canarecci or Josh Stump. They're excellent. Tell them what happened and see if they can recover anything then send it to hp. I've learned the hard sad way hp maybe user friendly but they produce junk.

hp junk

My dad just had an HP crash on him too.  Its several years old, and they live in Florida, where his computer sits outside most of the day, but he's always had problems with it.  I believe he's sent it back to HP more than once with no luck and terrible customer service.

As for a backup, in the last year, we bought an external hard drive.  I think it was $80 or $90.  It's separate from the computer, so if the computer crashes, you can unplug the hard drive, hook it up to another computer, and all your info is safe!

We bought a Dell laptop last fall, and my screen would occassionaly go blank, or I would get some crazy green lines across it.  I would shut it down, and it would restart just fine.  But my husband said the operating system on it was quirky, so he uninstalled it and installed a different one.  NO idea what any of that means, but that's what he did!

See if you can at least get your computer to work long enough to save all your files and pictures!  good luck.

Thank you!

I called and left a message for them. Thank you so much for your recommendation :) Do you know what kind of prices they have? I was looking on Best Buy's website and they wanted over a hundred bucks just to look at your computer and tell you what was wrong. Or you could pay over 300 bucks and have them fix it for you! I'm like jeesh I think I'd rather just buy a new computer!
I've definatly learned my lesson. I think I am going to go buy an external hard drive! I just pray that I can save what is on my computer now!

Best Buy

I wouldn't go through somewhere like Best Buy, they are going to charge you 2 ams and a leg!  Yes, if you have to pay $300 to fix it, you can find a decent new computer for $600!

They are reasonable. If

They are reasonable. If they don't fix anything, they haven't charged me. One time the computer froze for several days. That repair was $45 and they installed a quick scan to make little repairs when files are corrupt or breakdown. Good luck. I beg a lot too. That seems to help. Please save my photos they are all I have of my sons birthday... boo hoo boo hoo:)

It turns out...

It turned out that I had to take my computer to C&P. I drove all the way out to Connecting Point to find out they don't do work on HP Pavillions! It turns out the guy that worked on my computer at C&P was Joseph! He was so nice! He saved all of my pictures, documents, and music onto Dvds for me. Unfortunatly, my motherboard is what went out and it was going to cost a couple hundred bucks to get fixed so I'm sending back to HP. I told Joseph that someone on Michiana Moms recommended him and he was very flattered, he said it made his day:)

Good guys!

Yes, those guys at c&p are good fellows. We had a motherboard go out on one of our HPs but it was out of warrenty when it happened. The computer was like 4 years old, so we had to break down and buy a new motherboard. My husband put it in so we did not have any labor and I want to say it was like 130.-150. bucks-its been going strong since.

Hey Jessica hit C&P up for some advertising!

memory loose ?

We just had some problems with our pc, which is a HP. The memory card was loose in the tower giving us a couple of beeps and a black screen. ? There can be so many things. Do you hear the laptop running ? We also had a motherboard go out and the power pack.

CP Dist. is a good place to go, they are knowledgable and normally pretty good with cost as well.

Have you ran virus scans, and done your disk defragmenting ? Those are all things that can clog you up and have problems.

Operating systems is the system that makes your computer run. EX: Windows xp , or window me. Windows is a volitile system, I have been told that the apple is a better choice but so many systems run on windows.

Good luck

...

I've always thought HP was a good brand but man I'm not so sure anymore!
Yes, I do hear the laptop running. All of the lights come on too and I even put a cd in the drive hoping it would "wake up" the moniter but still nothing. I can hear it and it sounds like it is working, it's just a black screen.
I actually just ran a virus scan about 2 weeks ago and the disk degragmenting less than a month ago because I was having issues a few weeks ago too!
It really urks me how you spend so much money on something and have it less than a year and boom it decides not to work! You'd think it'd last for years with all the money it cost! The worst thing is my warranty ends in 10 days, go figure!
