CAR PROBLEMS
Does any one know anything about bearings on the cars wheel? I have to admit my husband nor myself knows much about cars. We got a 2007 Dodge grand caravan in June (I think) it has about 40,000 miles on it now. We just got new tires on it in the beginning of August or maybe the end of July. I notice the car was driving loud, it was really loud by the back of the van. It sounded like it did when we found out the first tires had flat spots and that is when we replaced all the tires. My husband drove it this past weekend and heard it and said it sounded like Vibration from the back tires. He thought maybe they needed balance (they should becuase they are new) anyways he took to Sherwood Tire (where we bought the tires from) and the guy drove and said the back left wheel bearing is going out. Everyone i talked to at work said it would squeak if the bearing was going out and it doesnt squeak its just loud. Sherwood wanted $400 to fix it. Does everyone have any idea what this sounds like? I just talked to my dad and he said maybe they did something to the car when they put new tires on it.

second opinion
We take our car to Thompson Diagnostics on Mckinley Rd. They are awesome. Very fare pricing and they don't charge to tell you what is wrong with your car. They are christians that are just amazing to work with. The man could use a little help with social skills, but he does great work. You may want to call him and see if he could check it out for you.
new sound?
Is the sound something new, or something you have noticed since you've had the car? Is it loud on the outside or something you hear while driving it?
Last year when we were shopping for a new van, we were told that Grand Caravans weren't very well insulated, and they tend to be loud/noisy in the back. The salesman told us this was the main difference between the Caravan and Town & Country (that and the bigger engine is standard in the T&C).
I have to agree with Amy, I think I would get a 2nd opinion. If it is a 2007, do you still have a warranty on it?

thanks
I just talked to my husband and he going to call a couple places. I agree it is louder then SUV we have but it was never this loud. A friend just came and picked it up from my work and he said it did sound like a bearing. I was told by people at work not to Sherwood so hopefully we can find one that isnt so expensive and is trustworthy.
off subject
kchristine8's talk of buying a house made me wonder....did you guys get that house you were looking at in Plymouth?

haha
I dont remember where we were when I posted that thread but we looked at it again and it will need a new furnace/ac, the roof is good but the windows are very very old. It didnt have a lot of storage and we have hte unfinish part of the basement full of storage. We didnt get it. We are still looking but we have basicially looked at everything that is on the market so we are just waiting for new houses to come up forsale. We are leaning towards staying in Bremen, Jason is now coaching preschool soccer and meeting new people so we are enjoying it better. But if we find the right house in Plymouth we would be willing to move.
Cars
Hey babe... My husbands friend works on cars out of his house and he is normally ALOT cheaper than any car shop. If you want him to check it out get ahold of me... ALSO.... MY HUSBAND IS A MANAGER at Gates... so if you wanna trade out of it- let me know!
Hey
We would like to trade in Jasons SUV its a Santa Fe its a 2004 and get a little car with better gas mileage but we owe more then anyone want to give us for it. We just bought ours a couple months ago.
Ask him how much he charges for a left rear bearing. We can get the part Jason found out from some parts place for around $115 but Jason isnt forsure how to put it on.
wheel bearings
Sounds like the wheel bearings. its a common part that goes bad after a certain amount of mileage. My explorer had the back wheels go first at around 50K miles. It sounds awful when they go. In my experience it was first road noise. All I a sudden it seemed like driving on the highway was very loud. I let it go for a while and then it became a horrible noise, a loud clang and it almost felt like the truck was being pulled or something was slowing it down. I took it in and it was indeed the wheel bearings. I got one wheel replaced and a few months later the second back wheel went bad. I knew right away from the loud road noise what it was. Now I noticed my front driver wheel is now making the road noise. So I am due for another repair. Im glad you asked this question since I just moved here and need to start looking for a mechanic. I had an awesome guy back in Michigan that replaced the back bearings. Some places will re use the hub. Other places wont and will replace the whole set up. There is a huge price difference between the two. If the mechanic has a large press he will be able to re use the hub. I paid 150 a wheel back in Michigan with re using the hub. I got a quote from another mechanic that wanted to replace the hub and the price was 400 per wheel. So like I said, the price diff is a lot.
