Our digital camera stopped working. The lens opens sometimes, yet not always. Any suggestions on a simple, yet good quality camera???Our other camera just took o.k. pictures-yet we don't know alot about camera's.

Nikon

We currently have a Sony and it's just ok.  Lots of times it takes blurry pictures, and I hate having to try so hard to get that perfect shot of the kids.  We used to have a Nikon and it seems to take the best pictures.  We never had to worry about holding perfectly still, the lighting didn't matter, and when the pictures were loaded on our computer or printer, the quality was excellent!

I just told my husband this morning that I would love to get a new Nikon, but our Sony isn't even a year old so I can't see replacing it yet.

Canon

My Sony Cybershot quit working on me a few months ago. We went and bought a Canon PowerShot SX100 8.0 Megapixels and 10x optical zoom. We LOOOVE it! We were mostly looking for something that we could zoom up close as when we first bought it we were going to a Carrie Underwood concert and I wanted as many close up shots as I could get. We were sooo impressed with the quality of the zoom. We honestly looked like we were in front row with using the zoom! I'm thinking it cost a little over $250 but it was definatly worth it! It also takes the pictures really quick so if you're trying to get a good shot fast, it does its job! I've read reviews online saying it had not so good battery life but I've never had a problem with the battery life.
I honestly wouldnt recommend a Sony. I hated our sony cybershot. Half the time the pictures came out with some sort of blur and it took forever to snap the picture. And out of nowhere it just decided to quit working on us.
If you want, I can send you some pictures of the great quality it takes...

Im a freelance graphic designer and use photography quite a bit in my projects. I have a Canon G5. Its almost like a SLR. They dont make that model anymore but I have used several other Canon cameras and I think they are the best.

camera

We have a casio and have had it for 2 years now and I really like it. It takes great pictures. My brother got it first and knows alot about cameras and he recommended it to us. We got ours around $175. We really want now is a Cannon the big ones that has a 10x optical zoom. Those are about $600. OUr neighbor has one and it take professional pictures. SO it depends on how much you want to spend. I want the canon because of the zoom. Our son is in sports and it would nice to be able to zoom closer plus if you hold down the bottom it takes multiple pictures at once so that nice too. SOrry I dont know all the technical terms for this stuff.

Nikon

Depending on the cost you want to spend would depend alot of what you get. I would also recommend a Nikon slr digital camera. There is a model that you can pick up at most of your outlet stores now and at walmart. It will cover most of the basic needs of the average photographer for family pics and give you some things to play with too giving you good quality photos. I love our Nikons wouldn't change them for the world.
