Brown Mackie anyone
I went and talked to the admissions lady about a month and a half ago just to 'check it out' I went on a Friday right before Memorial Day. I wanted to find out more about the LPN program and I really liked the sound of it you know 1 class a month graduate in 18months only 4hrs a day GREAT. But suddenly I was being rushed thru filling out papers and they wanted me to sign up to start class that Tues!! I have 4 kids all together at home 1 is in 1st grade the rest all home with me!! I ended up not being able to get anyone to babysit last minute :( I was sad but at the same time classes start every month! I really want to get into school!! Right out of high school I guess I was lucky to start off in a job that payed $11.50 that was 7yrs ago since then I have maintained well paying jobs with benefits and have only transfered jobs for better pay. Ive had 3 jobs in these last 7yrs worked 3yrs at my 1st job, 1yr at my 2nd job, then 3yrs to the day at my last job! I thought I was on top of the world! Then the economy slowed down and I was in a job that depended on the economy to survive :( I did not I was layed off! SHOCK!! The jobs out here are hard to come by I want to get into the LPN program then get a job and later go back for and RN. Any pluses of Brown Mackie? Also we are getting by on my fiances checks and unemployement but my unemployement is running out so I need to get on it!! I dont know how we are going to afford daycare for only part time for my 3 kids 4 and under :( I do not have any friends that are not working and we live in South Bend all of our family are scattered thru Berrien County and no one is really avail to us. Are there other moms going thru this, or what have you done? Anyone attended or has attended Brown Mackie? The hours for LPN vary from what Im told.

I know someone
I know someone that goes there and she likes it so far. I think she graduates with her LPN here soon...I know for a fact that it is not just for four hours a day b/c she goes for long hours it seems. Class time may only be 4 hours a day but clinicals are way longer. And what about help from the state for childcare, look into that.
Check into your credits transferring to get your RN
I was really interested in this too but I was told by SMC and LMC that Brown Mackie's credits wouldn't transfer to them at ALL!! So if you want to continue and get your RN I would investigate at the other school you're going to go too. Otherwise you might get stuck going through nursing school all over again. Clincials are usually 8 hrs a day anywhere I know of. I know that SMC does have a part time option for Nursing Students. Michigan has a program called No Worker Left Behind see if Indiana has anything like that and help for daycare.

Be careful if they pressure you
My sister in law works with someone that was pressured in, but wasn't pleased after she enrolled. It basically was because she didn't have time to do all the research she needed to understand what she was getting into, and then signed the contract to sign up for a program. My understanding is that it is much more expensive there and then like someone else mentioned that the credits don't transfer etc. Ivy Tech has billboards up saying they offer degrees for under $6,000. I would check into there because they do offer an RN program. If you have family obligations and something comes up causing you to need to take a semester off it might be better to go with a more flexible program.
Just make sure to check out all your options before signing anything.
Yes Ive gotten alot of mix
Yes Ive gotten alot of mix reviews on Brown Mackie, which is what makes me nervous!! The cost is higher than other school, from what the admissions lady said it because its a private college and an excellorated program, it allows you to skip the core classes. I called Ivy Tech but it would take me 18 months full time to complete just the core classes then theres a waiting list for the nursing classes :( Im probably getting a bad feeling about Brown Mackie for a reason. I know 3 people at BM for different classes but they just started so they can not give me a real run down. State will not pay for daycare while your in school only working, and we do not receive any aid now :(

credits
Credits from Brown Mackie probably don't transfer d/t the fact that they skip over the core classes...I went to Goshen College for my RN, it was a four year program but IUSB and Bethel offer two year RN programs, you could probably do that also. My friend that I went to school with did not work and she got help from the state for childcare with her two children...
Ivy Tech
IUSB does not offer a two year program, but Ivy Tech does. You may be able to get a grant from the school that would help cover daycare expenses. Another option would be financial aid. Good Luck!
