best car seat
My daughter is 10 month old and is out growing her infant car seat and needs a bigger one. I have been looking and comparing for about a week now. I love the one I had for my son but of course they dont have that one anymore. I found one I really thought I was going to get but then I went to walmart and it was not very comfy at all. Then I found one at the store that felt really soft and comfy but when I read the reviews on line it didnt get very good reviews I mean it was ok but stuff like it was hard to adjust things like that. I found another one online but I just went to walmart on my lunch and I really didnt care for it...it just didnt look very comfortable. I want one that will recline and last without spending alot. Any suggestion?

Britax
They are not cheap, but I love my Britax car seat and so does my daughter. It'll last until they're 60lbs, so as long as they don't get too tall, this could be the last car seat you need. It's really easy to install and has great safety ratings. I have the Marathon which had the best customer ratings. I know what a pain it is to find a different seat, so good luck!
Cosco Scenera awesome :)
Im HUGE on safety!!! I have done the research and asked many questions to make my decisions when I purchased my seats. I HAVE BEEN thru MANY MANY seats between my oldest 2!! I believe rearfacing as long as possible is the safest as is extended harnessing regardless of the funny looks and comments I have gotten car crashes is the #1 killer of people from ages 1 - 34!! Okay Ill stop there I currently have my 19month old rearfacing in a Britax Marathon which I got during the Britax sales for around $200 but I wanted an extra seat for rides with Grandma so I purchased a Cosco Scenera http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8054494&povid=cat91... which she can sit rearfacing it, also my Mom uses it for forward facing when she takes my 4yr old with her and it fits her great we just have to adjust the straps higher and that takes all of 2mins if not less. Its not as padded as our Marathon but neither of my daughters have complained! That was only $40!! There was one with great reviews by Safety 1st around $100 and highly recommended on the car-seat website that allows rearfacing also I cant remember the name of it though.... Ohhhh geez i could really go on, but you will ultimately make your decision on what works for you. You can get a great quality carseat that will suit you at any price range! Im all for extended rearfacing and harnessing but I know not everyone is, so I will also tell you to check out this forum for great reviews and info theres MANY carseat techs on this site that will be able to help you out! I used the site to make my choices and am soooo glad I did:

Britax
We bought the Britax brand for our twins and like them so much bought 2 more for my husbands SUV so we would not have to keep moving car seats.
Evenflo - Triumph DLX…
Evenflo - Triumph DLX… is my favorite and really comfortable and is really safe like Britax levels.
Evenflo Triumph
We have the Evenflo Triumph and we are very pleased with it. We bought it for Luke, and passed it down to Shawn. It reclines, it is plenty cushy, and its roomy. Oh, and it is easy to take out and move. My husband is the designated carseat mover, but I have no trouble doing it myself if I need to. I think we paid around $150 at Babies R Us.
My only small gripe would be the straps occassionaly get twisted. Not a big deal because it is pretty easy to fix. Other than that, no complaints at all. I would buy it again.

SWEATPEA3
Sweatpea3- Can you help with some info on carseat? I have been looking at 3. They are the Cosco Alpha Omega Elite, Evenflo Triumph, and the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1. Or do you recommend another one without spending $300
Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor
Hi I see that my Best Friend has outed me again! Just kidding! Actually anyone that knows me would tell you that one of my passions as a Pediatric RN is child safety specifically car seats! I will tell you that I will not recommend any seats or reference any brand negatively. The "Best Seat" for your family may be very different from another family. Getting opinions from other people seems like a great idea, however you need to evaluate your situation and shop based on that. I recommend that you know the height and weight of your child and start there. The "Best Seat" should be one that 1. Fits your child and one that your child can grow into a bit. 2. Fits your car and can fit with any other seats that you may need to install next to it. 3. Can be used by everyone that will be using it correctly everytime, especially if you are going to be uninstalling it and reinstalling it often. Check the harness straps and determine if they are easy for you to secure your child in place. 4. One that fits your budget. Babies R US will let you take the seat to the car and try it out and I would recommend that if you have a small vehicle or need to check to see if there is enough room to fit several seats next to each other in the seat. Put the child in and check to see if the should straps fit where they should and read the manuals for both the seat and your vehicle.
To answer your question about the 3 seats that you are looking at. I have had an Alpha Omega in the past and I liked it. I am currently using the Evenflo Triumph for my son and I love it, especially the fact that it has the side tightening system, much easier for me to tighten than pulling the strap when in rear facing mode. This is also one of the seats that allows it to semi recline in forward facing position. I have a friend that has the Graco Nautilus and she loves it because she wants to convert it to a booster some day and it goes to a higher weight limit. Each of them are about the same in price and all the seats on the market have been crash tested to the same standards by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. Each of the 3 seats that you are considering have slight differences, but you need to decide which works best for you. I would recommend that you make pros and cons list based on the features. The more that the seat costs does not mean that it performs any better, so don't get hung up on choosing the one with the highest price for it to be safer. I can tell you the reason that I chose the Triumph over the other 2 was that I wanted it to recline and side tighten as well as hold my 28 lb 3.5 year old until he is between 35-40 lbs to fit into a booster. He is average height and the other seats would not accomodate his height while we wait for him to gain weight. His seat goes up to 50lbs and 50 inches. I didn't need the seat to become a booster since his baby sister would need it in 1 year. I also love the way the harness straps raise to accomodate his growing. You don't have to take them out to adjust.
Stats Natinally show that on average that 73% of car seats checked by technicians had at least 1 or more critical misuses. Locally seats that have been checked had an average of 90% misuse.
I am employed by Memorial Children's Hosptial here in SB and I run a program that is a Permanent Fitting Station to check seats. For an appointment call 647-6880.
I know that this is a lot of info. Please don't hesitate to email me or make an appointment. I am on maternity leave until January, so if you want to see for the appointment you can wait until then or see one of the other technicians that work for me.

head support
Thank you so much for your advice and help. With the Triumph does it have good head support. I was reading some review and found that if the child falls asleep it allows the head to fall forward. My daughter loves to sleep in the car so my big things are that i want it to be comfortable when she sleep, reclines, and easy to adjust. Her infant carseat is a pain to adjust. We have a van so size isnt really a problem. My husband has a SUV so it should be find.
