My daughter is 2 1/2, for about the last 18 months she has been having issues with vommiting. About every 4-6 weeks she pukes sometimes with flu symptoms sometimes no other symptomes at all. Every time I take her in to the doctor the very next day and she is fine they usually chalk it up to a stomach bug and send us on her way. She has also had 2 fibral seizures in the last year and a half (seizures associated with a very high fever). Both times I've taken her to the ER for them and they can tell me that a fever is causing the seizures but can't figure out what is causing the fever and both times the next day she is fine. Well it all came to head this week. My mom kept her Saturday night and said Sunday morning at about 7am she dry heaved a few times. I picked her up at 9am and she was fine no fever nothing, she was fine all day Sunday, Sunday night, and Monday morning. I took her to the sitters at 7:30am Monday morning and she was fine, the sitter called at 9:30am and said come pick her up she is not acting herself. I got there she was grey and clammy, really lethargic and would not stay awake. She acted the same way she does when coming out of a seizure. I rushed to the ER and told she didnt' have a fever or any other symptoms so they didn't want to run tests to take her home and follow up with the doctor Tuesday. So I took her to the doctor this morning where she ran around playing like nothing was wrong. I thought this was a good oppurtunity to talk to the doctor about the past episodes and hopefully he would have some kind of anwers or at least refer me to someone who would. He looked her over and the only thing he could come up with was maybe it was migraines but we probably wouldn't be able to tell for a few years when she could communicate better. So feeling at a total loss I brought her home where she proceeded to act fine. Put her down for bed around 7 since she hadn't had a nap and being that she was tired and cranky she fought her sleep for a while. I went up to check on her several times and besides being tired and cranky noticed nothing else wrong until about 8pm when she projectile vomitted all over her bedroom. I just don't know what to do I am getting no answers form the doctors, does anyone have any suggestions, names of specialists, similar experiances???

scary

Wow, it sounds like you've had alot of odd occurences.  I'm not sure what to say.  What about food allergies?  Could the vomiting or fever be caused from something she is eating?  The seizures are scary too. Luke had one right before his 2nd birthday (also during a really high fever), but we really got no answers from the doctors, unless they continued.  Hmmm....have you tried talking to a different doctor...second opinion?

that's the next move

My husband is going to talk to the HR director at work tomorrow about our insurance and seeing a stomach specialist and we'll go from there. It's really hard to pin point any particular trigger to the vommiting and that is one of the most frusterating parts. We recently found out that she is severally allergic to tree nuts (cashews, walnuts, not peanutss) but I don't recall her ever eating them before the incident a few weeks back when she had the reaction and that most definitly wouldn't be the cause this time around now that we are aware of the allergy. Hopefuly tomorrow I will be able to get her an appointment for a specialist and even more exciting hopefully have them tell me I am paranoid and overeacting and she is fine. It just doesn't seem normal to me though.

Similar Episodes with My Son

My DS who is eight now had similar episodes when he was younger. He never had seizures though. He would get extremely cranky, pale and would cry non-stop over anything. Soon after this, he would start vomitting continuously. He would finally stop when he fell asleep from exhaustion. Scared me half to death. Same thing with the doctor, he would be completely fine when we would get in. My ped doctor recongized this right away as migraines. I kept a food/activity/mood diary for a few months to connect some of the things that seemed to trigger them. Lack of sleep, not eating regularly or a few foods were the connections that we made that triggered the migraines. We had to learn what behavior signs to watch for and start giving motrin as soon as possible. That seemed to help and as he got older we tried a medication that helped with allergies and to prevent the migraines. He maybe has one or two a year now. He is now able to tell us when they are coming on. I would keep a diary of what she eats/places she goes/activities/sleep for a month or so. Then take this back to the doctor. If you don't get the answers you want, then go to a pediatric nerologist locally. If still no help, then go to Riley children's Hospital. You know your child best and if you think you are not getting the help or treatment she needs continue until you find someone who will provide it. Good Luck and I hope you find some answers soon.

I seem to be getting somewhere

Talked to the doctors office this morning and demanded to speak with the doctor or her nurse. Of course I got the nurse. I explained the situation and my concerns and pleaded with her to get Madison in for some blood tests or an EEG to see if maybe she is having seizures we are unaware of and to possibly see a stomach specialist about the vomitting. She said she would speak to the doctor and she or the doctor would call me back today.

had similar problems

We had similar problems starting at about 6 months after months of no help we demanded to see an allergist... then switched dr.s also... our son is allergic to all nuts and vomits after even one bite with anything containing them and also has flu like symptoms caused by just one little bite. we have had to be very vigilant about reading packages because it is amazing what has traces of nuts in them... Good luck!!

your daughter

Hi, I am a grandma but a young one! I am 46 and feel and act 26 most of the time! LOL The reason WHY I am telling you my age is because with age comes "experience" an hon I've had a lot of bad luck also...the reason WHY is becuz these Dr's in South Bend/Mish area don;t know much at all!!!!! As you are finding out. If anything I say helps, let it be this: TAKE HER TO A PEDIATRICIAN OR ?? OUTSIDE OF SO. BEND AREA! Go to Riley's or??? anywhere where they specialize with babies....use the internet for your resourse and don't wait. THis sounds bad. If you can, before your appointment, have things written down. Like dates, what happeneds, be detailed. The MORE you can tell them, the better they can treat her. GET OUT OF THE SOUTH BEND AREA! If you need help finding a children's hospital, I can help you. If you can't get there---I can try to help you too. May I ask what type of health insurance she is on? Let me know. Tina (Kaitlinsgrandma).
My email address is: jtmathes24@sbcglobal.net.

I have been there

My daughter, who is now four, was diagnosed with Chrontic diarehra ( I know that is spelled wrong, sorry)when she was two. I dont care what " diet" you put her on, it happened all the time. BRAT diet, no sugar diet, no dairy diet, no wheat diet, high fat diet, high sugar diet- nothing changed, she would have horrible diapers and her butt was always red because it was soo acidic. Did labs of her urine and stool ( let me tell you how fun that was trying to get loose stool in a little plastic jar and turn it in to someone...) THEN when she was two, she had a fibral siezure. it was the scariest thing EVER and she has had two since then. We have seen every specialist known to man ( went to Rileys) and to no avail, there were no answers. We saw a stomach specialist in Ft. Wayne with a crazy long name ( now, since this is passed, I have heard he has a horrible rep, so dont I feel like a great parent) he was the one that diagnosed her. As for the siezures, they are extremely common in this age group, and once you get them, you can have them up to the age of ten, with no other reason other than your fever spiked and you body does not know how to handle it other than shutting down and restarting. She had her most recent episode when we went to the Hanna Montana movie in Elkhart. My husband never saw her having a seizure before and he was completely freaked out. the only good thing is, I know the signs. She gets extremely cranky, she has a low grade fever of 98 degrees ( when testing in the ear, make sure you get a thermonter that will work in the rear end area, this last time the ER ( in Elkhart) tested her ear first and it came back as 98 degrees, however, they then tested her in the rear, and it was 103- the ear therm. does not work for her as it does not accurately test for her.. and on a side note, the box on a ear one states that it is normally two degrees off).
It is extremely scary when your child has this and there are no answers. I hate to say that when she turned three( except for this last seizure) everything stopped. She had normal bowel movements, she could eat whatever and everything was fine. My girlfriend, her daughter threw up too, and when she turned three, it stopped. I dont know what the deal is with this age, but it seems when they past this milestone, it normally ends. She would tell me this and I would think, well, that is your child, you dont understand what this does to her and to me, and I dont think it will end, and I had to eat my words.
Whenever she has an epsiode, I would always call the doctor because I wanted it noted in her records, and I would put in my notes as well because if it ever came back that she did have something, I wanted it recorded, that one, I was on top of it, and two, I was going to sue the stinking pants off of them as I TOLD them something was happening. What I do with my daugher, is pay attention to her. Is she cranky, is she " out of it"- even if she does not have a fever, or at least I can not detect it, I give her fever reducing medicine as I dont want her to have a seizure. I also give her some sort of sugar water to make sure her blood sugar is up.. i dont know why but I have heard that helps, and so far it works for me. Doctors from many places have told me to keep her drinking as much as possible if she shows symtoms, and it could be pop, water, icey popicles, whatever, it just helps her body to stay cool. As for when she didnt have one, but acted like it, my daughter has done that to me on numerous occastions, and again, gave her medicine right away, and made her drink. I know, this does not help with the throwing up, but I have been there and had a friend too, and it passed once they turned three.

Update

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and suggestions.

I talked to the doctor and the are going to get Madison in for an EEG to check her brain waves and possibly a CAT Scan depending on the results of the EEG. They also want me to keep a diary of the incidents when she is puking, what she ate, what she did, etc. I am so relived they are finally taking this seriously and not blowing me off but at the same time am sooooo worried that something could be really wrong.

EEG Tomorrow

Well it's 10:30pm and she's still up,, the goal is to keep her up until midnight and wake her up at 4am. They said she can only have 4 hours of sleep the night before the test so she is sleep deprived and sleeps through the test. I am really nervous about the results and hope that I am just being over paranoid and they will all come back negative, although I would still always wonder what caused the episode last Monday and there is still the issue with her puking all the time. The test is at 1pm and I have to go to work in the morning which should be lots of fun on 4 hours of sleep but hopefully we will all get lots of rest tomorrow night.
